The Beer Distributors of Massachusetts were concerned about a bill that would alter the franchise regulations drastically regarding the brewing, distribution and sale of beer in Massachusetts. CSCG worked with existing brick-and-mortar distributors across Massachusetts and conducted multi-shift trainings to mobilize both blue-collar and white-collar workers. to write/email their state legislators. This had generated thousands of constituent contacts to their legislators.
Part of the problem in addressing the hepatitis C disease is that a large percentage of those with the disease are not aware they have it. CSCG worked to pass legislation for Hepatitis C screening for certain population demographics. Key research findings concluded that 75% of patients diagnosed with hepatitis C belong to the baby boomer demographic.
CSCG worked with the Coalition for Jobs and Growth to develop and implement a multi-faceted public affairs and lobbying campaign aimed at expanding gaming in Massachusetts. Through a grassroots lobbying campaign among union construction workers, we facilitated local and regional meetings plus phone call and letter writing campaigns. We identified and engaged key stakeholders as the “faces” of the campaign and organized thousands of construction workers in successful support of the bill, which included three resort-style casinos and one slots license.
There was a proposal to repeal the film and TV production tax incentive. On behalf of The Mass Production Coalition and Save MA Film Jobs, CSCG leveraged front-line, Massachusetts-based film and television production workers, with small businesses and vendors to advocate for the program. More than 12,000 emails,15,000 postcards, nearly 1,000 phone calls/handwritten letters, and 500 people participating in a “lobby day” helped preserve the program.
Here’s what some of our clients said about working together:
“We hired Charlie to join a team of government relations, regulatory and communications professionals to make the public advocacy case in favor of authorizing casino gaming in Massachusetts. He not only understood our objective, but also helped build consensus with the necessary stakeholders. Many lobbyists can open doors on Beacon Hill; Charlie’s credibility is invaluable once those doors are opened.” -Chip Tuttle, Partner, CTP/Suffolk Downs
“Charlie maintains excellent bi-partisan relationships because he connects with all government staff regardless of their titles or positions. His strategic mind, integrity and attention to detail have been an asset to our team. My goal was to add a pair of helping hands to a small team, but Charlie feels more like a full-time contributor.” -Marc Hymovitz, Director of Government Relations, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network
“We were seeking someone to lead our grassroots efforts for the film and television incentive program by engaging the growing number of individuals and businesses that benefit from this industry. Charlie and his team accomplished that and more. He frequently proposed creative ways to engage the community by raising awareness about the program benefits and kept our initiatives on schedule. Charlie exceeded my expectations by planning, conceiving and executing effective campaigns that inspired people to actively participate in our efforts.” -Chris O’Donnell, Business Manager, IATSE Local 481,Board Member, Massachusetts Production Coalition
“Hiring Charlie was an easy decision because he understood both our members’ passion for change and action as well as the role of our staff in making that possible. He helped us build a culture of trust, unifying members and staff in the process. Charlie’s team balances old school techniques with grassroots lobbying that yields positive results. I am confident that as we experienced, he always will exceed whatever high expectations are set.” -Julie Pinkham, Executive Director, Massachusetts Nurses Association
“It was quickly apparent upon meeting Charlie that he knows the characters and personalities of the Members and all-level staff within the Massachusetts State House. He ensured that he understood our positions and continues to ask the right questions of us to impact legislative outcomes. This has enabled him to represent our issues and monitor legislation, while keeping me informed about nuances and positions. Charlie is a dependable, reliable and trustworthy partner, who is a valuable member of our team.” -Robert Likins, Vice President of Government Affairs, Pet Industry Council
